Westwood Explosion 150th Anniversary Event |
The anniversary of the explosion will be commemorated on Saturday 24th March 2012 at the Miners Welfare Community Hall, High Green, Sheffield.
The doors to the hall open at 1pm. The itinerary is as follows:
- 1:30pm Arrival of the Lord Mayor of Sheffield
- 1:45pm The Lord Mayor will plant a memorial flower in a special planter outside in front of the Hall
- 2:00pm Unveiling of the plaque inside the hall
- 2:10pm The Six Jolly Miners will perform their sword dance in tribute to the miners
- 2:20pm Light refreshments served
- 2:30pm High Green Primary School re-enacts the explosion
- 2:40pm Song for the fallen miners sung by Victoria Bowden
- 2:45pm High Hopes Drama Club re-enact the inquest
- 2:55pm Traditional mining song sung by John Bowden
- 3:00pm Maltby Phoenix Sword Dancers perform a rapper sword dance
- 3:10pm onwards Songs and other performances, with some songs where everyone can join in! Words will be provided
There will also be history and heritage displays, pictures and poetry by the pupils of High Green Primary School, and much more!
